Okay Zade is confusing. Like he’s very morallt inconsistent. It’s a little hard to believe in his character cause on one one hand he works tirelessly to rid the earth of human traffickers and thinks harming women and girls is evil, but then has no problem stalking the shit out of a completely random person? It’s just hard to buy in how opposed he is to human trafficking but also likes when Addie resists/is genuinely scared of him? How is that different? Like I’m sorry he straight up assaulted her that first time??? I can’t possibly see how we are supposed to be okay with this? I am down for consensual nonconsent or even a very morally grey chase… but there is nothing redeemable about this at all.  I mean whatever I do enjoy him aa a character and think he’s very hot and smart and ultimately actually loves and respects Addie. But I still can’t get over that first scene where he straight up assaults her and she certainly doesn’t want it to happen regardless of how her body ends up reacting- she literally admits it was a violation. It’s hard for things to not just feel like a trauma response after that. I appreciate his self awareness and once they get together the second time it feels definitely better- like they’ve come to a somewhat consensual agreement. It’s just hard when that first time was not even remotely okay. And I am all for dark romances but this was a little hard to buy into.

The second half of the book is better but the plot gets worse. Such random things are happening: The crazy Sibby girl? Addie was marked for human trafficking by the society this whole time? What is happening. The ending is obviously a ‘shock’ but I truly have lost interest and it’s doesn’t feel like a cliffhanger I’m dying to resolve.

I didn’t dislike the book enough to not want to see the series through cause ultimately I still want to see how it ends. I think my takeaway is non consensual stuff is just really not my vibe. The plot is too unrealistic, a little too all over the place, and however hot Zade is- he’s too unrealistic as a character.

I like the concept of the human trafficking storyline but this book did NOT need as much smut as it did. Most of them didn’t even make sense? Feels like it was forced in there just to have more smut. Addie was kind of annoying.

I think the only characters I like were Jay and Daya. Can they have their own series???

This books is beyond messed up and I found the writing style alone was not my faves. Almost DNF’d after that first horrific scene with the gun (iykyk) but stuck it out to see what the hype was all about.
