This is the first book in a fairly long series and, as such, didn’t have a super defined plot. Most of the book is about worldbuilding and developing the relationships between Lily and her three giant alien devotees.

And they are devotees. They are so utterly, adorably (and often gratefully) in love with her almost immediately. So thankful to have a Pasha that values them for things the tribe treats as faults.

Frrar, goodlooking, but possessed of a powerful overprotectiveness after his family’s death.

Tor, with his undesirable patterning, small stature, and puppy-like exuberance.

And Arruk, deemed too big, too shy/antisocial, with an overbold patterning.

Lily meets them where they are and shows them that they are perfect. For her.

The worldbuilding here is also top tier. There are several unusual concepts going on here that I adore. I love the unusual water situation, the descriptions are fantastic, and the boys’ culture is endlessly interesting.

Looking forward to continuing the series.
