ok bcs i read this for gcse english, lets talk abt the ending
personally, i believe that the inspector was a real man however he was not an inspector but rather a man involved in either eva smiths life or part of a organisation which works with working class woman. furthermore, to describe the infirmary telling gerald that there is no patient who has committed using disinfectant, i think that the hospital was either under police command and told to keep the situation private or goole had a personal relationship with eva and happened to know how and when she committed suicide. it may have been a last ditch effort from eva i.e. she wrote a suicide letter either sent to or found by goole.
the ending highlights how the younger generation (sheila, eric) both chose to accept their responsibility in eva smiths life and began to understand their privilege. whereas mr and mrs birling and gerald chose to accept their delusions that goole was fake demonstrating their privilege and arrogant nature.

Big fan of a good bit of socialist messaging. Love capitalism bashing. All in all, enjoyable to both read and analyse.

There's not much to say about this familiar play. The impact was as dramatic as the first time I read it but my age now versus then certainly makes me understand Sheila and Eric a lot more. Contrary to that, I also understand the Birling's point of view (even though it's not right). An Inspector Calls suddenly seems like a culturally and socially relevant play again, what with everything going on in the world.
