Review to come

Not my favorite Austen, but I liked the ending well enough.

What a slog! The first half was so so so draggy i nearly DNFd. Middle of part 2 got interesting & Part 3 flew by! Still kinda hate the ending, Fanny should have stayed unmarried. She felt like a consolation price. 3.5 Stars.

An at times excellent but also flawed novel. I think it is a fascinating read of early C19th morals and ethics. Everyone getting so very upset around an affair, but not so about an uncle who owns slaves. Fanny's character development is interesting, the conclusion a little rushed & underdeveloped. Ultimately this book is about the fascinating & 'corrupted' Crawfords.

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Fanny is just so different than the normal Jane Austen character. Fascinating study on human nature!

I have never hated an Austen heroine more. Fanny is so holier than thou and timid. She doesn’t even seem alive. At least mrs Norris has the fire of disdain to keep her going, Fanny is just horrified and weak. Yes people treat her horribly, but she treats people horribly too!

One of Austen's preachier novels, like [b:Persuasion|2156|Persuasion|Jane Austen|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1160527159s/2156.jpg|2534720], and likewise sacrifices its wit for the sake of upholding dull, unendearing virtue.
