A good one. I have a daughter of similar age. Fortunately her experience has been different, but it made it easy to connect. The story was sufficiently twisted and surprising.

I would have the misfortune of grabbing the first intriguing Bosch book by cover off the shelves at Half Price Books and having it be (likely) the darkest emotionally of the series. WHOOPS. I have a feeling I'll enjoy other Bosch books more, and while this was pretty solid all things considered, it wasn't really my cup of tea.

Not the best Bosh book, but worth a read.

One of the best Harry Bosch novels yet. Connelly isn't just phoning it in, even in the 15th of the series. Good stuff!

Bosch is getting to be a bigger arsehole in every book.  He sent pictures of a corpse to his teenage daughter and found it funny. He is totally unsupportive of his partner who has twin babies.

Two stars, reluctantly rounded up to three simply for the brief appearance of Mickey Haller and the mention of Jack McEvoy. As I trudge through Bosch Universe I find Bosch increasingly melodramatic and the situations just unrealistic. These “bad guys” were so stupid a ten month old could outwit them. Really --- a fake text message brought them down? Luckily the next two books in the “universe” feature Mickey.

This is the fifteenth book about the fictional character Harry Bosch, a LAPD detective, a character that I like. The book is a fast, gripping read, in which Bosch's private life gets entangled in his work. I find the series excellent vacation reading, though I note there is more darkness and violence than some might care for as they lounge on the beach.
