Vampire Luca Macquarie lives by few rules, but the ones he does live by are set in stone. No love, no humans. However after Luca rescued newly made Samantha Irving, he finds his protective side going haywire. Luca wants to keep her at a distance, but there is a lurking danger and Samantha is not necessarily excited about becoming a witch and has her own ideas on how to deal with the trauma she was left with.

Luca falls though and boy does he fall hard, Samantha wants to be with Luca and hopes they have some kind of future. For Samantha though she has no idea about the paranormal world and is finding it slightly confusing on what to expect from Luca. As she continues to be threatened, Luca and Samantha must find an amulet in order to spare her life before time runs out.

Out of all of the books I think Luca is the most alpha male. He is curt, straight to the point and although he is trying to fight the bond they are forming he realizes he that pushing Samantha away is going to fail. I would have to say this is one of my favorites, it was unexpected and I was shocked by a twist in the book that I did not see coming.

I liked this one, the second in the series, better than the first. However, while the character development on this one was better (partly due to the fact we'd already met the characters in book 1), many of the same writing issues persist. I think my biggest pet peeve about Grosso's writing is that she does a whole lot of telling and not enough showing. Plus she's just too redundant. Oh and the epilogue annoyed me too. It felt far more like a prologue to the next book.

But again, I'm not reading these for their literary value. I'm reading them because I enjoy the escape.

So if you don't take it too seriously, you should enjoy reading about Luca and Samantha.

I love the way this series unfolds. I read the first book in a day this one in two will continue them all
