What can I say about Sam Mariano other than she is freaking awesome.

This book isn’t as dark as her others and Hayden isn’t the typical bully like her other MMC’s, but I still loved him. He bulldozed his way into Gemma’s life, who was trying to keep her distance because his son and her daughter were having issues at school (ie, Landon bullies Parker).

This quote here I think sums up every Sam Mariano book:

“I’ve told you no a thousand times. I shouldn’t have to say it again.” “Why don’t you try a different answer? One I’ll like better.”

An easy to read bridge between Undertow and Contempt, which I am SUPER excited for.

A quick, steamy and engaging read. The dynamic between Hayden and Gemma is very hunter/prey with a protective MMC twist - Gemma comes to him for help with a horrible neighbor, and Hayden is all “no one’s gonna push your boundaries but me”. The book flirts with a lot of dubcon but I wouldn’t call it a bully romance because Hayden never tries to tear her down. The emotional connection is quite insta-love, so it’s definitely more about the kink and steam. I liked this much more than I expected to.

Edit: I haven't read any other books by Sam Mariano, but apparently this is sweeter than the norm for her.

Originally read in the Bully God Anthology in February. Hayden & Gemma’s story. Another great opener for the Coastal Elite series. If you’ve read Even If It Hurts, you may recognize the Hero in this story. Hayden Atwater - Dare’s attorney.

I’ve been waiting for that bonus scene with Landon & Parker (Hayden’s son, Gemma’s daughter) and it didn’t let me down! It has the makings of another epic bully romance from Sam Mariano….with a potential splash of that delicious stepbrother trope ;)

Sam’s my fave. 5 stars
