I'm torn between a 3 and 4. I liked it. There were a few things that were predictable. The writing was good especially the way it flowed from the story into the letter. Parts definitely gave me the chills but once one specific twist was revealed it 100% lost the scare/suspense factor. So basically it was good but yeah.

I loved this spooky thriller. While the premise seemed obvious—remote nannying job and the parents just leave as soon as she starts—the twists were not obvious at all and I was surprised right until the last minute!

A London woman gets a high-paying job as a live-in nanny at a large Scottish Estate. The previous nannies had all left rather suddenly. The mom & dad are architects and have decked the house out with all the Smart Home features which can be controlled via an app. The nearby townsfolk are wary of the house due to rumors of strange happenings and haunting. Add to that strange noises in the night and misbehaving kids who won't warm up to their new nanny. Fun, fun.

This was a pretty quick read to get me through the weekend. I actually have another Ruth Ware novel ([b:In a Dark, Dark Wood|23346377|In a Dark, Dark Wood|Ruth Ware|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1429521615l/23346377._SY75_.jpg|42905101]) up next in my library queue so I guess I am doing a mini-binge. I had previously read [b:The Woman in Cabin 10|28187230|The Woman in Cabin 10|Ruth Ware|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1465878007l/28187230._SY75_.jpg|48209164]. Of the two, I enjoyed The Turn of the Key more.

Up until the last 10 pages the book is a 3-star slow burner, sometimes a little bit too slow, but the last 10 pages.... definitely 5 stars. Such a great ending!!!

Such a thrilling page turner! Loved the setting...spooky renovated Victorian house turned smart house. The author had also made it quite seamless and made sure all the small minor red herring clues even connected to the main story. Loved how it played with your mind as to hmm could this actually be supernatural/ghosts or is their a more scientific technological explaination

One thing this thriller did well is how it was wrapped up - I usually tend to not like thrillers that are left with open endings for the reader to decide what happened, although this would have made for a great one due to the supernatural vs scientific battles. However I also appreciated that we actually found out what happened to little Maddie although it was pretty harsh!

You could also tell there qas a lot depth amd cracks to the characters. Even the children you can very much tell they behave like they already come from a brokem famiy and how their fathers behaviours have affected them growing up.

Dragged and dragged until infinity, just not my cup of tea, maybe it could be shorter? Was not written in an engaging way, I really don’t care about main character

Wow. Okay. The whole time reading it this was feeling like a 3 star review. Kept me engaged. Strung me along feeding me pieces of information. Put the plot twist at the end???? Got me. Holy crap this was good.
