I've read quite a few of Beverly Jenkins books and it's often a safe bet to have a good read. Love the romance and the couples and the mix of the very serious content. Have many romantic elements but is not all fluff
Delicious đââď¸ waterfall sex and leaving a trail of broken and bloodied* enemies throughout your travels is so hot
*When I say broken and bloodied I mean dead. Theyâre very dead.

The synopsis was intriguing however, I didnât care much for the story. I didnât like how quickly Claire fell for Dominique or Dominic (however his name is spelled). I liked certain parts of the story but not enough to truly enjoy this book sadly.
The historical tidbits in the book was 4 stars, hands down. She manages to integrate such fascinating historical anecdotes into the romance itself, without feeling like history lessons.
As for the romance, it felt a bit, um, boring, for me. It was instalove, not my favorite. The middle of the book dragged for me. The last half of the book picked up a lot.
Itâs an enjoyable book overall, but I didnât love it. Itâs great writing, I just didnât love it.
Edit: After going to a Bookclub about the book, my appreciation for her historical tidbits lessened. And my overall enjoyment of the book lessened. Nothing like listening to smart comments on a book and itâs historial accuracies or inaccuracies to enlighten oneself.

Once I realized we took a HUGE step back in time, it took me awhile to get into this book. As always, I loved the way Ms. Beverly brings her characters to life, and manages to not only entertain but educate us along the way.
