One Night of Scandal by Darcy Burke
Wicked Dukes Club #4

For two years Lady Viola Fairfax has written under the name of Tavistock providing articles for a women’s magazine. Women were not perceived capable of writing at all let alone for WOMEN so she created a disguise and went out to her brother’s pub and found stories to write. That she wanted to write meaty newsworthy political stories was not to be...for a number of reasons. When she overhears a rumor and decides to follow it, in disguise, and Jack Barrett realizes what she is up to...we...he pulls her away, listens to why she is set on following the story and finds himself offering to assist her in her endeavors. That neither Viola nor Jack ever plan to marry should make it easy to spend time together, right? Well, the time they spend together has them soon thinking about one another in slightly different ways than they expected.

This was a delightful story of two people who knew what they wanted in life and did what they could to make it happen. In the process they happened to fall in love with one another and find their HEA together. I loved the main characters and also the secondary ones. I look forward to reading book five as soon as it is out!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

4-5 Stars

Viola wants to be a reporter, but as a woman, she’s not allowed. So she becomes Tabistock, and writes as a man about what happens at the Wicked Duke pub her brother owns.

Shehapoens upon a dangerous situation involving a group who tried to kill the Prince Regent, and who now seem to be going after Jack.

Jack is an MP, career driven to represent the people. But, he has enemies in Parliament, and he and Viola find themselves solving a mystery about who’s out to ruin Jack and possibly harm him.

They find the culprit, fall in love, and all ends happily.

This book seemed a bit slow, with the politics making Viola’s dressing up and the scandal of their relationship take a backseat. It wasn’t bad, but not a great, read.

I received this ARC for free, and am pleased to provide a review in appreciation for this book.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent historical romance with the heroine as a brave reformist who is anxious to become a journalist in a man's world. She dresses up a man in the hopes of discovering important news she could expose. She gets a tip from a fellow at the bar she frequents and she partners up with Jack to find a political traitor in their mist.
I found bits entertaining if not a bit slow in the beginning but it picks up. Jack and Viola are a powerful couple and they make the story compelling.

It took more than a little while for me to wrap my head around Jack and welcome him into my heart. He's the guy you want to love, but are never sure you can actually trust. Burke is at her best when her characters are at their worst. One Night of Scandal draws readers into an intriguing love affair. Jack and Violet are a complication the heart doesn't need, but refuses to do without. Neither is what they seem and that's what made me love them so much more. A temptation worth exploring.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lady Viola Fairfax has posed as a male journalist for two years. No one would hire a female and the disguise allows her access to a manly man place. Her brother, the Duke of Eastleigh, is part owner of the Wicked Dukes tavern. He knows what Viola is up to and has given her access to his bar for tabloid fodder.

MP Jack Barrett saw through the disguise a year ago but has kept quiet. He's decided Viola needs a partner, male, to escort her. Viola agrees so she gets access to more manly man places. We're given danger, disguises, traitorous acts, hot kisses in dark closets and a make out session in a hack! Of course they're caught and it creates a small scandal. All's well that ends well and they get a happily ever after

This terrific read will be available on May 28, 2019. Next up will be One Night To Remember starring the handsome Giles Langford. I can hardly wait.

A thrilling entertaining read. I just wished it was a full-length novel.
Lady Viola Fairfax masquerades as a man so that she can write for a magazine. While she secretly wishes to write more serious topics such as politics, she instead writes mundane society gossip. Jack Barrett is an MP who knows of Viola's secret mainly cause he is observant. I was just so pleased to read a hero who has eyes and can identify a woman even though she dresses up as a guy.

During one of her visits to the Wicked Duke tavern, Viola hears a rumor that can help her write an article she actually wants to and Jack gets roped into helping her. While the two investigate, they fall in love with each.

With 'One Night of Scandal', Darcy Burke tells us a thrillingly romantic story between two unlikely characters. I would have loved to read more of their romance than the actual investigation, but that did not deter me from enjoying the book. With the plots and subplots in the book, I do wish this was more of a novel than a novella.
Though this is part of the Wicked Duke series, it can be read as a stand-alone. This is a definite read for lovers of historical romance books.

This is the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club but it can be read as a standalone. All of the books in the series are great and this book will definitely make you want to read the rest of the series! Lady Violet Fairfax is an eccentric woman who masquerades as a gentleman (Tavistock) to gather information for the articles she writes for the Ladies Gazette. MP Jack Barrett recognizes her and together they try to solve a political intrigue. Jack was sympathetic to Violet’s need to write something of importance. The characters were wonderful; providing laughs, romance, scandal, and mystery. The story was well paced and entertaining to read. I do wish it would have been a longer story so we could see more of the characters and the romance that developed between the two. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I knew after Viola took Isabelle to the Wicked Duke that her story was going to be fun. It’s clear from the moment he stopped her that he wasn’t going to be put off from her easily. Their search to find out the scandal was dangerous and I did not see the twist of who took care of everything coming at all. I loved how they just clicked and were able to talk to each other about anything. They way they got engaged was very different, but fit them perfectly.

Viola has managed to keep men at bay because of the past, but Jack is not like the other men. I loved when she grabbed him at the ball and how bold she was in every moment. She tried hard to please her grandmother.

Jack wasn’t looking for love, but it found him. I loved how ahead of his time he was and that he was willing to help her. He would do anything to protect her.

I loved her grandmother after what happened in the park because she did not act as I expected.
