I was fortunate to hear the author talk about this book and she shared that the book wasn't originally organized as "rules" to follow. I liked the change - I think the "rules" set up for a great conversation about gender expectations and how just because this is how something was "once" done, it doesn't have to stay as a norm.

I get what it's going for in being your own person and not worrying what others say, but not sure it's completely successful. It still felt very stereotypically "girl" genderized in the illustrations and some of the wording. And some of the professions seem a bit of a stretch to try to make a rhyme that feels forced.

A fun rhyming book about dressing however you please. Lots of dress-up good times, too!

This one fell flat for me... still used very much "female" specific clothing (as deemed by society not myself personally) as a mainstay even though the book was trying to say you could be anything you wanted to be when you grew up. I do appreciate though that they were trying to message if you like your clothes then those are the best type of clothes.

Eloquently simple by design. The illustrations do a lot of heavy lifting for this book, but it is seriously cute. The rhyming scheme is great.

A lively and sweet read aloud about having fun with friends, trying on different hats and roles, and supporting each other. A great book to communicate that girls can do anything, but never once feeling preachy while getting the message across.

A very cute and positive book about wearing what you want! This would make a great book for storytime.
