guys, did you know savannah isn’t like other girls?

let me start off by saying two things: i know i won’t enjoy every book i’ve ever read but there is someone who is going to, and i tend to get upset when a book deals with similar themes/events of my own life and they handle them how i didn’t. those two things aside, im so sorry but i just really didn’t like this book. i was so excited about it because truly it should have been something that i could relate too, but i just couldn’t.

one of my main issues was that everything was so black and white. the characters, the issues, the relationships, really just everything. it lacked SO much nuance that it was almost painful to read.

the characters were cringe. every single one of them fit into a stereotype. they were not unique and were downright as i said, cringe.

and while i understand that a reader could make an argument that when you’re in college, everything is cringe which is why the book is the way it is. to that i say, sure! if it is done correctly and has some depth to it.

i also just do not think the sensitive topics were handled with care. it all felt like plot devices to keep the story going. and again i can as acknowledge my own bias with this and maybe that’s the reason i feel the way that i do. but i am just left feeling disappointed. there was no exploration of any of these themes and topics, just used as a buzz word for this “woke” ass school (and let me just say that i go to one of the most liberal schools in the country).

there was no saving grace to it and i would not recommend this. HOWEVER! if you liked it and resonated with it, AWESOME! truly we all have different tastes and it just wasn’t for me. and again absolutely no hate to the author at all. i could legit neverrrrr write a book and this is an impressive achievement so who the fuck am i to say anything.

anyways….. to sum this up: cringe and shallow.

I read this really quickly and really enjoyed a lot of the characters but the vibes were at times bordering on YA. Thst being said I think a lot of the topics explored and types of people and relationships included were great and well done - but a lot of it could’ve just gone a bit deeper!
