The queer characters were as obnoxious as the group I knew in college when I was in school in 2015, usually I could look over it but it was dizzying.

I had to DNF, I appreciate the trigger warnings but it was still too much for me, in terms of rape.

This is a difficult read. The content is hard and certainly could triggering.

Having said that it is a beautifully exposition of both the queer experience and that of a survivor of SA.

As a CIS white man I found it very informative and in the end heartwarming. I also was surprised how relate able I found the MC seeing as we monumentally different traumas and life experiences.

"We're old enough now to know that joy is not dependent on another person, no matter how much we want it to be."

Haley Jakobson has enchanted us with this lovely debut novel. It was exciting and eye-opening on many topics. Dealing with your past life and growing into an older version of yourself can be challenging. We can keep the people we love in our lives but also let them go at the same time. Challenging topics, a young voice, exploring current gender topics whilst also sprinkling in some light humor. A great, young novel. Eager to see what she does in the future.

( I listened to the audiobook of this so I will also be talking about the narrator's performance)
I have so much love for this book that I can't put it into words so I will say this. this book means so much to me it taught me things about myself, it made me realize things I may not have realized as soon as I did if I had not read it. I went through a friend break-up very similar to Sav's though certain events happened in the opposite order, it still helped me feel seen. this book made me so emotional, immediately after I finished it I sat curled up in the guest room at my aunt's house holding back sobs. along with all those things I found my name in this book and for that reason I will forever be grateful for its existence and it will always hold a special place in my heart and so will Wes the character I got my name from.
Jenna Kay did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life and telling Sav's story
