"I may be broken, but all my pieces are yours."

Cute story but I didn't like this one as much as previous others in the series.

HAHA so many unexpected twists and turns for a fun past-the-time romcom read. I really enjoyed how self aware the main character was and the plot was unique and intriguing. The characters are way more memorable than other books in the Knitting in the City books and were perfectly imperfect. I had a really good time reading!

I read this to distract myself from being worried about a job interview, and it worked. It was concerning and unique and I like how it all turned out.

Trigger warnings: child abuse, parental death, incarceration, surveillance

November 2022: The first time I read this book, I gave it 4 stars. On this second read, I dropped it down half a star. I still really liked the romance. I'm usually not a fan of a big age gap, specially in some circumstances, but I think the dynamic between this pair was great and their relationship was really unique. However, during the first read, I had no idea what cryptocurrency was or why it mattered. Two years later, I know a little more and I think it's kind of strange to make that such a big part of the plot haha. It's wild for a main character to be set up as the creator of something like that. This time around, it gave me a sour taste in my mouth and me read it more slowly.

Let me start by saying that I "read" this in audio form. It started off extremely slow for me. I lost interest for a period of time and "read" something else in the car on the way to work. Finally, I got back to it and as the story went on I was more and more interested. I was not a fan of the narrator's voices. I didn't picture Sandra and Alex speaking like she made them out to sound. If I had just read this book -- i think things would have gone a little more smoothly and I would have finished it much sooner. I enjoyed the story in the end, though. I thought Alex was a great mystery throughout the entire book which just made me more and more curious. This is probably why I stuck with the story as long as I did. In the end, it was a good story with a great bit of character development and I just overly liked the story line. I think I liked Alex more than Sandra...but there is just something about this story that seems somewhat unbelievable to me...I'm not really sure why. Definitely the worst of Penny Reid's books so far... and I still gave it four stars. So... go figure. Anyway -- if you like the rest of the gang from the Knitters books...this is still a continuation of that story. So it's a win-win.

I will say I enjoyed Sandra and Alex's story more than Kat and Dan's even though it pains me to admit it. Reading this book slapped a near permanent smile on my face and again I really enjoyed everything about the Knitting Friend group that the characters are a part of. Sandra and Alex's love story wasn't insta love which is a plus for me and is wasn't purely about physical attraction so YAY. It wasn't packed full with unnecessary relationship drama and they treated each other so well :)

Example of why I loved Sandra:

"I might cry later, at home, while watching Steel Magnolias and dressed like a homeless person. Sometimes I applied mascara before crying just to heighten the experience."

See, she's just so real and relatable!

Now Alex's turn:

"You are the most exquisitely beautiful woman I've ever seen. And I'll never say that you're pretty, because that word is pathetically inadequate."

Damn, Alex, stoppp, you make me blush!

Excited to read about Ashley next...

First of all, Mrs Reid is genuinely the owner of cute contemporary romance (I will take no arguments). Also, I just need to express my OBSESSION with Alex the waiter. He will forever have a piece of my heart (a tiny piece given that he is fictional). Side note, I’m reading these books so out of order I feel so rebellious teehee
