Ok, this is the book that really made me a superfan of Ilona Andrews. It's also one of my favorites from the series overall.

The first time I read this book, I read it in a single day, I was so into it. This time it took me a few days, but I was busy! I still stayed up way too late to finish it.

We learn a lot more about Kate's family in Magic Bleeds when someone who used to ride into war beside her father rolls into town. There is so much character development and plot movement in this book. Nearly everything changes, and we're propelled into a new level of this series.

Killer aunt? check. Toxic but not toxic and most definitely culture related relationship issues? check. Emotions on high? check.

This book had it all. Short notes:

- I loved the plot. It was everything actiony and didn't lag at the end (even with the emphasis on the romance and love).

- I'm not a super big fan of the romance, because some of it reminds me way too much of toxicity and volatily - but in saying that!! Curran demonstrates that he's not toxic. The relationship does develop with a lot of talking and negotiation between Kate and Curran. I do cheer them on because they try very hard and care a lot about each other.

- This book also begins with a very strong romance plot - literally the first page begins with an event that we ended with in Book 3.

- We learn some more about Kate's history and family. And we even meet the family! love the mythology and fantasy worldbuilding of this book. It was fantastic.

- The Pack is also very intense, but individuals are really funny.

- The Order however, gives me a headache!

Overall
Going right onto the next book!

I liked this one the most so far. I think it had the most interesting villain.

Ok, ok, Ilona are starting to shape up their series. First one was pretty random with the red stalker, then I thought we had three disjointed stories with the Rakshasas, evil aunt and Morrigan but it's clicked now that we're going doing the evil gods path.

Yea, I'm into that, it's different than your usual vampire/zombie/fae/werewolf evil guys. Have werewolves ever been evil in PnR though? hm.

Loved this one for the ending. YOU GO GIRL, KICK SOME ALPHA BUTT. My girl Kate, owning the bad assery, getting her man and murdering family.

TRIPLE WIN.

I didn't like this one as much as the previous two books. I suspect the main reason is that there were very few new concepts or elements introduced into the world, which subtracts much of the rating. The other thing is that the plot was mostly driven by dumb people making stupid decisions (Erra and Ted mainly), which is always a bad sign.

There were many action scenes, and they were fine, but again, nothing new. Kate only managed to survive because her opponents were dumb, or because she was rescued. Being that much out of her league really left a scar on the reality of the book.

The romance between Curran and Kate seemed to get much more attention here, and it did good - otherwise it would have potentially ended up with 2 stars.
I feel compelled to praise the conclusion of the book (i.e. after the final battle) - it was very cute and - in a weird way - romantic. I'm not a huge fan of romance, but in this quantity (and quality) it was enjoyable.

There also were some minor things I did not like. For example Andrea just disappears at around 80% in the book, and we don't know what happened to her. Honestly, this is a huge oversight... unless the author is planning to do something special with it in the next book.

Anyway, I'll keep reading the series (now that I've come this far...), hoping that it gets better in the next installment.

Sigh....little angels were signing were in the background. Payoff books are the absolute best! I can't get enough of this series and have neglected pretty much everything else in the last week.

"You don't pick the family you're born into. You pick the one you make."

"You said you would always come for me. I need you now. Come back to me. Please, come back to me."
