First of all, any book with a map of the fantasyland it inhabits is an instant selling point to me. But I’ll be honest, the last one I read was disappointing, so I was especially excited when I immediately fell in love with this universe.
Joey and Taurin are both sweet, adorable, insanely giant hot messes, and I loved that they didn’t really fix themselves over the course of this book. Like it was okay for them to still be works in progress in other parts of their lives.
It’s also a wonderful introduction to Taurin’s flatmates who will populate the rest of the series and I love them all. And this world of monsters and humans interacting was well-fleshed out and easy to comprehend without bogging us down with backstory. (I love Darren & Todd though.) My one minor complaint is the generalization that all dragons are assholes, just cause meh to generalizations. I hope they all come across a decent dragon later in the series.

3.5 stars rounded up. Super cute romance! No third act breakup (thank goodness)
I really enjoyed the world the author created and the glimpses of the lore we get to see. It’s always fun to see how authors interpret mythical/folklore creatures differently. Loved all of the characters- main and side. Also, this was quite funny.
This is a super weird blend of fantasy and contemporary romance. For the most part it worked for me. I think what I disliked most was the more contemporary, real life issues the characters face. Which is something that is completely on me and no fault of the author or book. It was lovely.

Funny & steamy, with endearing MCs. I did find the world a little confusing, & there seemed to be a lot of Earth/human things in it even though it takes place on another planet/another realm (I think). I know it's not supposed to be a high fantasy, I just wish there was a little more backstory or a little less ambiguous lore. It took me out of the story several times.

I'm actually quite impressed with how the author depicted Joey. She wasn't perfect and didn't fit into patriarchal stereotypes. Plus a definite ACAB and anti capitalist sentiments which is nice. I also like that the father is a recovering bigot.
Taurin never becomes a fully fleshed out character. The more we "learn" about him and his circumstance, the less sense he makes. Learning more about him doesn't explain his personality better. It feels like his purpose is to be a tragic hero, instead of an actual character that is also a tragic hero.

Cute, funny fated mates story. I loved the multi-species world, but I have to say the story actually felt a little preachy to me (“you can’t help who you love” etc etc?). Forgot the characters’ actual names because they kept using stupid nicknames haha.
Loved Taurin’s found family and will keep reading more from the series!

I absolutely devoured this book. Love me a fated mates trope!! The whole Crescent City/multi-species world was fun. Loved the chemistry between Taurin (a big-ass Minotaur who thinks terribly about himself but is a total softie) and Joey (a human who loves driving fast). The friends were great, and Russ the teacher was hilarious! 🤭🤓 Will definitely be reading more from this author. Just a fun, quirky, lighthearted, romantic read 🥰

This surpassed my expectations! A light hearted read that was well written and funny. The characters were likeable. The world and magic was an interesting backdrop to the romance. Consent was well considered. Would definitely read more from this author.
