This book is strangely disgusting but thrilling. It seemed to become all consuming and is thought provoking. Would recommend though not to family

this was an entertaining listen but i dont think i wouldve enjoyed reading the physical book. it doesnt make u think at all, which is nice to have in the background of everyday life.

spoiler
i actually love that it ended w september 11, i was waiting for her to talk about it and hoping she would. also as soon as she said reva worked in the wtc i knewww she would die in the end

I loved this. It’s an odd, unpleasant book and I don’t really know how to rate it. (4 stars? 5? Idk, I’m sure I’ll change my mind later) The protagonist is aggressively unlikeable, privileged and mean (I think this was the author’s intent) and I don’t know many people that I’d actually recommend this to irl.

But wow, so much about this book resonated with me. It’s a very grimy glimpse into grief, depression and how we choose to self-medicate in really unhealthy ways. I felt waves of disgust and sympathy for both the protagonist and her friend Reva.

And then I actually felt strangely hopeful by the end.

Again, it’s a weird, gross but oddly beautiful book.
