The art was great and Chiang is what drew me to the book.
There was a “getting the band back together” vibe I enjoyed and reading these people we know as villains grow older and think differently was interesting.
The relationships between the characters seemed lived in and new connections were built well.
Batman’s influence is here though he doesn’t show up much.
Still not sure if the promise/reveal of Orpheus worked for me (and I’m not sure if Orpheus is an established Batman concept). Around the same time we learned about Orpheus at the end, there was some magic happening that took me out of the story. Until then, it was stuff that seemed more realistic (even Ivy) for whatever that means in a superhero-based story. At the end, I still liked the characters working together.
Harvey Dent and Barbara Gordon were well featured.

Really insane that Cliff Chiang did the writing, art, and coloring for this entire book. It’s a blast of a time too, and really lends itself to the DC Black Label branding without coming off as forcibly edgy or anything like that. It’s mature because the characters are older and have been through the worst parts of their life, each hanging on by a thread by the time Lonely City picks up. Having lost so much, it’s all about moving on, and the book handles that to great effect.

This is everything a good stand-alone Gotham-based graphic novel/miniseries should be. The fact that one creator did almost every aspect of it, and in a very labor-intensive, carefully structured way, blows my mind. I really hope he makes more like this for DC Black Label.

Cliff Chang’s masterpiece. It’s an amazing feet of cartooning that you almost never see in mainstream comics; he even lettered this!
That said, the story didn’t completely work for me. The pacing seemed a little off, and I wasn’t crazy about the larger cast.

Loved it! Except post Gotham a straight Edward Nygma does not compute for me but that’s a personal issue
