Wow! What a wild ride! My favorite thriller of the year so far. Multiple jaw dropping moments throughout this book. Karin really put a lot of thought and complexity into her characters. Everyone knows a version of a Leigh or a Callie. A heartbreaking end, but it brought it back full circle and could it have ended any other way? I don’t think so.

This is my first Karin Slaughter and I definitely get the appeal to her work!

This book dealt with some very dark topics (rape, addiction, drug abuse, pedophilia), but I found myself unable to put it down. Despite it being 400+ pages, it felt like a relatively quick read with all of the tension!

Also, super super weird to read a book so set in the first year of Covid times.

What a fucking wild ride. But honestly, I expect nothing less from Karin Slaughter. This book was insane from the start and didn’t let up from there. I loved how all the different parts came together and how I never stopped being shocked by the reveals throughout. I think the scene where
Andrew shoots up Callie in the old house
is perhaps the most uncomfortable I’ve ever felt reading a book, and I had to keep looking away from the words on the page. I was hoping for a
happier ending for Callie, but really I think Karin brought it together perfectly in a more realistic way.
Would definitely recommend, but  check content warnings.

This was my first Karin Slaughter book, but definitely won’t be my last. The reading was easy, but intriguing. The twist wasn’t just one at the end, there were many through out that had my mouth dropped open. She built up to each twist as well. This book was written during the peak of Covid and at the end she wrote a little something about it. Even during the story, she incorporated the lockdowns and masks. I took 1 star away because the chapters really are long. I prefer short and sweet chapters.
