I just finished the audiobook and this is another excellent book by Karin Slaughter. I’ve listened to almost every book she’s ever written and I don’t know how I missed this release last summer. Her character development is always great and this book is no exception. This book made me much more emotional than some, especially in the second half. Dr. Jerry’s compassion for Callie was also a bright spot in the midst of some pretty dark subject matter (because it is Karin Slaughter, after all ), and brought tears to my eyes.

Karin Slaughter always impresses me with her bold, brutal, gut wrenching, heart warming, honest, in your face stories. I appreciate her representation of mental health and substance abuse, her powerful and fierce female characters, and her realistic, unapologetic (though disgusting - we have to do better for each other, y’all) presentation of societal views of girls and women, the impoverished, survivors of sexual assault, and those battling addiction. And love. Love is so, so beautifully woven into this story. My favorite by her, so far.

Solid thriller. Insights into addiction. Kept me on my toes, didn’t want to stop reading.

Amazing storyline that hooks you from the start. The ending gives you a real sense of resolution after so much turmoil throughout the book.

Honestly this would’ve been a 5 star if Covid wasn’t mentioned 10 million times. I read and understood the note to the reader but it was definitely too much and at times took away from the story. Other than that Karin slayed another true crime thriller with sisterly love, I only picked this up because of how much I loved Pretty Girls and it did not disappoint!
