the best of the eighth doctor box sets so far!! dark eyes was fine but i didn't love it. this however is wonderful. the eleven is a really interesting antagonist (though my mind is reeling trying to work out the gallifreyan chronology). i'm really liking liz and helen was immediately amazing. the second story was the best of the lot and i am obsessed!! cannot wait for the rest.

A superb return to form for the Eighth Doctor boxsets. I love the new companion Helen, and I think her introduction story is probably the best ever. Doctor Who finally finds a Time Lord villain more interesting than The Master in The Eleven. I can't wait to be nostalgic for this one day

Lots of fun!
Big Finish does a fabulous job with these audio productions, and Paul McGann does a fantastic job as the 8th Doctor; he's maybe one of the best ever.

This collection had a slightly more historical flavour, which I enjoyed, and I LOVE the new companion Helen - and her chemistry with Liv.

The character of Eleven is a "oh wow, how didn't they think of it already??" kind of a brilliant idea, which could definitely be used on Who in other contexts as well. One would think his condition would definitely be something that could happen to a Time Lord/Lady.

Though I have to admit, my possibly fave story of the set is The Red Lady (introducing Helen, and not featuring Eleven, even though he does loom behind it). This creepy story works splendidly on audio, but would similarly suit pretty much any of the previous and following Doctors in the TV form as well.

Looking forward to the next "series"!

A very solid entry into the canon of my favorite audio Doctor. It’s good to get back to these.

Well for those I decided to do a bit of a breakdown on the different stories:

1. The Eleven : I thought that story was great, and had a very interesting concept for a villain. Plus there's Liv in it, but then that could go for the entire set. I just love live, she's such a great character!
5/5 stars

2. The Red Lady : This one was wonderful, and apart from the character of Helen whom I'm not a big fan of, I don't have any thing else to say apart than this is an amazing story.
5/5 stars

3. The Galileo Trap : Still a good story, but I didn't like it was much as the previous 2.
4.5/5 stars

4. The Satanic Mill : A pretty boring finale to the overarching arc of the set.
4/5 stars

Overall I really liked the first set of Doom Coalition, though I felt the main overarching arc could've been handled a bit better, since, in the end, it mainly covered the first and last stories.

But still, I really liked this set, and now I just have to listen to Doom Coalition 2!

Overall ratings: 4.5/5 stars

Doom Coalition 1 is an incredibly mixed bag. It opens with one of the best Eighth Doctor audio stories and then proceeds to plummet into a mixture of mediocrity and downright dreadful. It’s a shame that they squandered such a promising premise with dreadful execution. At this point, the only thing I’m looking forward to in Doom Coalition 2 is the appearance of River Song. Hopefully, that box set can win me back over with its plot as well, but I’m not exactly holding my breath. It’s a shame since Dark Eyes was, on the whole, fairly solid and consistent. It’s never a great sign when your opening installment stutters its way into existence. I hope the latter three box sets can make up for this.

This is easily one of the best Doctor Who audio adventures I've heard so far. Divided into four different sections, each has a different set of challenges that all relate to the overarching chaos caused by a criminal Time Lord called The Eleven. McGann's Doctor is both serious and Romantic-with-a-capital-R, and this and the forthcoming Doom Coalition sequels will inch him closer to the changes the Time War will bring.

What makes Big Finish stories different from regular audiobooks is that you also get music, background noise, and lot more context clues that aren't necessarily reliant on traditional narration. They're like throwbacks to radio dramas of old, but acted much like they would be on screen. While I still think it's a shame that one of my favorite Doctors has had very little screen time, I always enjoy hearing Paul McGann's voice. It's as handsome as he is, really, so if you needed one more thing to motivate you finally diving into these stories, I hope that helps.
