This was an option for my rising 8th grader’s summer reading. Since it was one of the only books on the list I haven’t read and it sounded interesting, I decided to check it out from the library. It’s an interesting premise, but it’s quite poorly written. I read a lot of middle grade and young adult fiction, so the intended age group isn’t the issue; it’s simply not very good. I’m sorry for that, as the subject matter could generate great discussion. I’m disappointed it was included on a school reading list alongside some other truly excellent choices.
