I've been carrying around this book in my bag for a while with intention to read it MONTHS ago. I decided to pull it out yesterday and made my way through it fairly quickly. While it is a short read (138 pages), it is a very informative read. It shows just how easily it is for history to repeat itself if you're not paying attention and not intentional. I will also be watching a short 45 minute video on this "experiment" I found on YouTube once the kiddos are in bed and I can better pay attention to it.

I read this for the first time in middle school and re-read it after the 2024 presidential election. I felt comforted by this explanation of group-think that I've referenced throughout my life.

I think that it's a great book.  I was stuck with it in our literature cirlces at school and it wasn't even in my top three that I wrote down.  I would have probably picked it but the way they put on the number to scan it makes it impossible to read the back.  I now know that next time i should pick one just for that reason itself, plus my teacher would never put a bad book as an option for literature cirlces

I first read The Wave by Todd Strasser many moons ago, and upon rereading it, I still think it's a valuable read for the lesson it teaches. Based on a true story, The Wave is about a young history teacher trying to explain to his students how those in Nazi Germany were so oblivious to their surroundings and willing to follow Hitler. I think it's a great book for a teacher to pair with Anne Frank or simply for anyone who finds themselves asking the same questions as those students.

This book is based on a true story which happened back in 1967. While reading, I felt like the book was documenting rather than giving a life to the story, much like those documentaries that have short scenes that recreate some moments from history to give a sense of understanding to the viewer.
The characters are sometimes “placed” in situations and we don’t really get to see what led them there - actually, even when they are asked to explain it, they end up repeating the same words, offering little insight. I think the main issue is that everything is lacking a little bit of depth.
I understand that this is meant to be middle-grade reading material but I feel like there could be more detailed reasoning to make it a bit more engaging for the reader.
I’m still glad I got to learn about this event through this book though!

Literally felt like I was reading the screenplay of a Freeform or Lifetime original movie. Scary real in some spots.

Mr. Ross calm down with the Icarus act.

This book is an interesting illustration of sociology and the power of an idea and how quickly people can become consumed by it.
