Perhaps the funniest Austen novel I've read. The trend here is the most recent one tops the former but the ending I felt was a bit protracted... same issue I had with Northanger Abbey oh well.

No Jane Austen heroines have been humbled like the Dashwood siblings omg

Charlotte Palmer is a gag hahahaha.

Also that damn Fanny can rot. 4.5 starzzz

“they could live without disagreement between themselves, or producing coolness between their husbands”.

can’t believe this took me 5 months to finish. wow.

however, it’s taken me 15 years to finally read a jane austen novel, and i have never felt more at ease now that i’ve finished it all.
this book was a journey and a half to say the least, and it’s safe to say i’ve explored an old yet beautiful style of writing which i loved so much throughout. jane austen is spectacular & i cannot wait to binge read the rest of her books.

Sigh~

Read the rant at your own digression. Spoilers below.

My expectations of this novel, and the reality of what was delivered, left me quite saddened. Having read a handful of Austen's other works, Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Persuasion, I thought I knew what to expect out of her writing. You have a heroine of middle/upper class standing, a male love interest or two, a lot of sitting around and talking in drawing rooms, and some good old pinning. Austen's formula was unchanged, but oh my, I felt that this story did not age well into modern times. I saw a few other post talking about this, but reading Sense and Sensibility with modern ideals about relationship dynamics really irked me. The part that bothered me most was the quickness in which everyone forgave Edward and Wiloughby. Excuse me? One monologue later about how sorry he felt for using Marianne and now he has your pity Elinor? I know I'm oversimplifying the events, but come on. That type of guy doesn't deserve anyone's time of day, even if you acknowledge that he's selfish afterwards. Just because you apologized doesn't mean you're worthy of that forgiveness, or perhaps this is my own pettiness speaking. Then there's the situation involving Edward, who is quite a terrible love interests. Elinor, if you really love him, that's all hunky dory, but you do know that he deceived you this whole time, largely because of his own indecisiveness. She was lied to for so long, does that not bother anyone? Yeah he felt sorry afterwards, yeah he then goes into a soliloquy about his rational, but literally the same day Elinor accepted his marriage proposal. Guys, if any of this happened modern day, well, it wouldn't be happening.

These issues aside, I am well aware this was published in the 1800s for a very different audience with different ideals and sensibilities. That's why I stand by what I said before, this novel did not age well. Also, the only character I truly enjoyed was Mr.Palmer. I thought he was hilarious in the two scenes he was in.

Again, my opinions only. If you liked the book, power to yah, if you didn't like the book, welcome to the club.

TLDR: Wasn't the book for me because I didn't agree with Regency era sentiments.
