thoroughly enjoyable. an irreverent approuch to historical discovery, filled with drunken escapades following Captain Cook's circumnavigational journeys. Very interesting, well-researched, and just tongue-in-cheek enough to keep it interesting.

loved this book. Horwitz exposes me to people I probably wouldn't otherwise encounter, like the "aryan" civil war freaks in his other book, the new zelanders who use the swastika symbol apall and fascinate at the same time. How do people come to think and act this way.. the book has some answers. But don't get the wrong idea, mostly it is equal parts humor and history lesson and all fun

I enjoyed learning about Captain Cook and his nautical voyages around the world from this quite entertaining author. The book sinks a bit in the second half, however.

It only took me a year and a half to read...

Highly enjoyable for anyone who has an interest in Captain Cook, which I totally do, and I admit it biases me in favor of this book. But I've enjoyed Horowitz's other books, and I think his narrative style - a combination of observation, complaint, and information - would work even for a non-Cook-obsessed person.
