This book is GORGEOUS. It interweaves the authors own life experience, with climate science and Iñupiat culture and knowing to present a tale of a spiritual journey, of the consequences and impact of western Anglo-American greed and colonialism, alongside a deep love for grey whales.

I've already reccomended this book to everyone I know. Its gorgeous.

Probably closer to 4.5 stars. I really liked the directness of the writing, the raw and multilayered emotions, the good balance of facts and the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings.

Highly recommended!

A fascinating journey of a mother and her small son looking for whales, tracing climate change and facing change on a daily basis. It was quite the intimate, touching memoir and I love whales, so the book was cool! I learned a lot. I was also immensly thankful how many indigenous people played huge roles in her research (as they should!). 4 stars

Magical. Heartbreaking. Wonderful. Difficult. All these things and more. I'm so glad I read this.
