Exceptional. A well-researched commentary and call to action for restructuring the world for women in sports as well as a page-turning memoir. Made me reflect on my own experiences as a competitive athlete in adolescence and recreational athlete now and how my athletic goals and training relate with my experience as a woman in sports and in the world. My husband found this book for me. I am so very glad he did. I loved it, every word of it. I am not a runner, but I have been an athlete all my life. However, I think any woman would appreciate this raw, honest story about a woman finding her way in a man’s world. After all, aren’t all women doing the same?

it was fine, i guess? obnoxiously preachy at times. the message is so important and i wish it could have been better conveyed.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the memoir aspects of the book and found the information about female physiology and the implications for athletic training and success fascinating. The prescriptive pieces, though I agree with them, seemed a little heavy-handed in their rendering, but that's a fairly minor quibble. I imagine it would be a somewhat less enjoyable read for someone who isn't familiar with the track and field athletes she references, though my husband, himself a track athlete through college, couldn't get enough of Fleshman's story.

Everyone and anyone in sport should read this, especially if you are a female or have a daughter participating in sport! I listened to the audio and it was fantastic

very good audiobook. I remember hearing her name a while back, so it was interesting to hear her story. And, I enjoy the product she started in her kitchen, Picky Bars. :)

Great book. Increased my awareness of the need for more education and voices on how to make running (and all sports) a more inclusive and safe space for females…especially the young ones.
