I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. I liked how the booked mixed Lauren’s personal experiences with running with information about women’s sports.

I throughly enjoyed this book, having no prior knowledge to running, and so little known about women athletes. The author writes down to earth and so informative. I was angered, and joyful, and triumphant, and happy right along with her. A GREAT READ!!

This book is a fantastic reflection on a fascinating career and very open account of the struggles Fleshman faced physically and mentally. Her growth as an athlete and person was, as is all of life, nonlinear and told in a very raw light. I would recommend this to any athlete who struggled with the pressure of the observer, and to any woman who is in a male dominated profession.
I read this for a women's science book club that I run and without a doubt, this is the book the most members have been the most excited about!

So here’s the deal about this book. I put off reading it for so long because I really just expected it to be a classic cis-het white feminism book, and also I’m not a runner. But damn it was sooooo much more than that and I was invested immediately. Damn this book is so important for anyone who is involved with or works in women’s sports. The way that she champions eating disorder prevention right from the get-go as a kid is really really cool to read about since it really flips the narrative of what we usually see.

The story is complex, it’s honest, and it inspires me to coach???Weird. I think I’ll be a better PE teacher after reading this. I want to get a copy and mark it up.

Highly recommend the audiobook.

The book is missing discussion of trans women/people in sports, and I would have liked to see more discussion about that rather than just name dropping it twice. There’s definitely more room to include intersectional feminism as well, and Fleshman’s story needs to be told anyways.

Very interesting look in professional running and the challenges female athletes face.
