Entertaining for the most part. While other reviewers found Adams' style of writing short chapters which are even further subdivided into vignettes that switch constantly between characters and situations, I found it irritating. I would have appreciated sticking with one set of people for a little longer than Adams did.

I also found the climax and resolution severely lacking; it may be that I just wasn't invested in the characters, or maybe that it was rushed. I don't know.

And finally, as a religious person myself, I found the cavalier dismissal of the Bible as a collection of folktales by most of the characters (other than the arguably maniacal and definitely homicidal reverend who serves as a primary antagonist) rather offensive. While I am open to other's opinions and recognize that the Bible is not primarily a historical record, I do believe it to be the word of God and that the events recorded therein really happened.

An enjoyable, fast paced read. I really like the authors style of writing, with short chunks of the story told from by a different character, usually ending with a cliff hanger that keeps you wanting to read more. I have to say I enjoyed this story more than The Alexander Cipher and I'm looking for to book number three. The only downside for me is I wish the female characters were a little stronger.

Incredibly obvious plot and writing...not as spell binding as he obviously thinks he is.

there were pieces of this book that I REALLY liked. Naguib and his wife and daughter, the fact that the priest was all fire and brimstone and a little whacked, Gaille and LilY (even though she was kind of whiny)...but....I..okay 1/5 was being really nice. that sounds mean, but for something that is pretty much advertised as "Da vinci's code meets Indiana Jones" both of which I LOVED (and why I picked up the book) I could NOT stand this. It took me FOREVER to finish this. I am glad I am finally done. Now on to something else.

Although I read the first book of the series almost 9 years ago and had this book on my TBR for 7.5 years, I was in the mood to read something about the middle east, something that had a little action and when I went to my bookcase with so many unread books it was the book I wanted to read. (Even though it is a book that might be good for a lot of the challenges I want to accomplish for 2018.)
The book this time is 3.5 stars (I wish once again that Goodreads could give us this option) because of the pacing, everything was rushed, maybe because of things that happen during the book and the characters are in danger.
With this series, you don't only learn about ancient Egypt and intersection was during ancient times and all the nations that passed through, but also you learn about nowadays Egypt, about the bureaucracy, the bribing mentality and how life is there.
Another issue that is shown in this book is about the religion and how it interacts with other fields like history, archaeology and even science. I loved how the chapters are written, the book has different plot lines that at the end all intertwine. Each chapter is divided into 4-5 parts with a little bit of each plot line. The sensation of reading those chapters is like watching a movie with different scenes.
I would suggest this book to people that like suspense, like archeological and historical information, if you are willing to read open-mindedly about religious conspiracy.

A quote I take from this book is "...And if not them, then perhaps the people of a future age. A more rational, enlightened age maybe they'd appreciate the wisdom of the walls, not hate and vilify it." (page 3-4).

It took me ages to finish this book because so many things were happening on every page, it just tired me out mentally all the time and I had to stop for a bit. But otherwise it was a decent adventure.
