In some ways, two stars is generous for this read which I really did not enjoy. But I did finish it which I think speaks to the quality of the writing (but certainly not the story (or maybe it's the other way around?)). It had the right sort of kook to suck me in but was just lacking in so many areas. And that ending!! Seriously?!  Definitely not one I'll recommend to others. If you want multiple times lines, turn to Blake Crouch's brilliant "Recursion".

There wasn’t enough world building before adding this extra layer of complexity. Wasn’t grounded enough in the story and tried to give it a chance, but tired of trying with this one

One of those books where I couldn't stay focused on the story or the characters long enough to actually care what happened.

Weird book. Lots of interesting ideas but also weird.

I dislike Groundhog Day-esque narratives, but a bookshop shelf talker convinced me I'd like this book. Speculative, female friendship, apocalypse, the Louvre. What made the book just "meh" wasn't the repetition inherent in Groundhog Day plots. Thankfully, this kind of time wormhole involved more variety day to day. I found the explanations for the time loops confusing (although I didn't try especially hard to understand). I find the idea that female friendship bonds are more fulfilling than romantic heterosexual relationships compelling. And I like complicated female friendship narratives. I don't know much about cartoonists, so the descriptions of Bertie developing cartoons and thinking like an illustrator was enjoyable. But the sum of all these parts just wasn't very remarkable.

Started reading the book on Libby, read the sample and liked so I checked it out and then almost immediately read the description (which in my opinion spoiled the
groundhog day
part of the plot). I don't usually read apocalyptic fiction and I didn't love reading about
hurricanes that had destroyed much of Texas
so at that point I decided this might just not be the book for me.
