Love the academic rivals in the book but also this book I felt like nothing happened. Like it’s a magical school book but it felt like too much school if that makes sense.

I really wanted to live this boom but I found it kinda boring. Nothing happens for pages and pages and it centers mostly on the characters. I think the premise of it is really interesting & perhaps this is all leading up to something really interesting in book 2, but literally a year goes by where almost nothing happens.

The twist at the end might be enough not make me read book 2 but probably not.I’m

Unpopular opinion coming your way: I think this novel was a littler over-hyped. Yes, I did love the storyline and the character development - so maybe I just wasn’t “in-the-mood” because man did I have to trudge through it. The writing was beautiful but very dense. It kinda felt like I was back in my Rhetorical Theory class in grad school, and I freaking hated that class. So maybe that is why I didn’t absolutely love it. But yes, I of course will be reading the sequel. It so irritates me when a novel ends on a to-be-continued vibe. Ugh, frustrating. Maybe I will be in-the-mood for that one…
