Classic for a reason. Great pacing, interesting chapters, and of course, Dracula.

I had been low level avoiding this one for years because I thought that the combo of epistolary form and 19th century would make it a slog. I was pleasantly surprised by the prose and pacing and the fact that I’ve seen this material adapted and referenced so much made it feel like rereading an old favorite.

This book was interesting.
I loved the plot, the ideas and the writing. An incredible amount of it felt so incredibly real.
But still it took me a month to finish. And I don’t know why. It had a slow pacing at some points, and the language was older, but I might just have been bored. And I don’t know why, because I love the story.

Conclusion: a very good book, but slow burn and a bit oddly written. Still definitely worth a read tho.

I love the epistolary format, the mood, and how Victorian anxieties seep through every page. But some of the middle section sluggish and Mina deserved more of the spotlight.
