PLOT:
Our main character, Saimori Miyo, is practically sold off by her horrible family (mainly the evil step mother) to a wealthy man with a bad reputation. Because Miyo has been living as a servant in her family's house she has a hard time adjusting. Her would-be fiance, Kudou Kiyoka, is gorgeous but scary with immeasurable wealth and unbelievable power. Kiyoka has rejected every other potential bride up to now. Will the two find common ground?
A historical-fantasy vaguely based on the Meiji era in Japan, "My Happy Marriage" tells a fairly formulaic Cinderella-esque story.
REVIEW:
Overall this was an okay start to the series but it didn't make me *need* volume two. I was able to finish it in a day so would recommend to someone looking for something short formulaic and easy to finish.
The writing was not the best. In light novel fashion there's a lot of repetition despite the overall short length. I'm not sure if this is the result of the translation but there was just a lot of awkward prose that would take me out of the scene.
The Gift magic system is not explored with much depth though this may be solved in later volumes. I was interested in learning more and a bit disappointed by how shallow it was.
