What a book, man. It was such a good choice to go in blind, it enhances the experience a ton.
The time loop idea of the story was implemented well, and I appreciated the general variety that was used. There were some details that I guess could be considered plot holes, but they're small enough to overlook.
Overall, a really enjoyable sci-fi book that really made me feel and not be able to put it down whatsoever.

I went into this expecting cute romance. This is a sci-fi thriller, emphasis on thriller.

This book absolutely floored me. The twists, the mystery, the pining romance, chef's kiss, a whole lot of it. What I thought was going to happen didn't, and I went through a whirlwind of emotions.

I'll also never look at manicotti the same way again.

Who tf decided to market this as a YA book?! Istg I postponed reading this for so long cos I thought it was just an, idk, enemies to lovers in space maybe? Or just a normal YA gay romcom but in space. O BOI WAS I WRONG!!!

The only spoiler I want to give is: what if Moon (2009) was gay and with two people instead of just Sam Rockwell. I had three or four possible ideas when I started listening to the audiobook. I knew almost nothing, except that it was highly praised and had gays in space lol. Also.. I guess Memento? Source Code? SPN Endless Tuesday/Groundhog day/that funny Stargate SG-1 episode? Cool stuff tho.

I honest to god had to stop at the end of every single part. I went through such a whirlwind of emotions, melancholy, enjoyment, fun, horror, relief.. so many times I had to pause and leave the recording for a day or two, scared for the future parts. Hoping for a positive ending but dreading a sad one instead haha

I wasn't initially too keen on the narrator, James Fouhey, but by the end of part 1 I could honestly imagine nobody else voicing OS and Kodiak. Ambrose too, but I love Kodiak so much omg my poor brooding bb with a soft squishy heart ❤️

Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in psychological horror in space & some sweet and tender sharing of manicotti in space.

Hot scale: there are some sex scenes but they are mostly mentioned. There are some very sweet post coital pillow talks tho.

Kodiak and Ambrose's journey to save Minerva was incredibly tense and packed with insatiable turns that caught me off guard. There was some truly devastating moments as revelations occurred from OS - the operating system of the Endeavour.

When reading the first part of the book, I figured quite early on that there was deception regarding the year and time that was being divulged to our protagonists. However, learning the trajectory of their travels was a surprise alongside the anatomical structures within the spacecraft. Fixing the problems was a distraction for the major mission later revealed.

I truly adored reliving the building of Ambrose and Kodiak's relationship. The opposing personalities being thrust into companionship so they no longer had to be alone. Delivering the concept that companionship is better than suffering in silence is a true depicition of human resilience and need. Playing on themes of LGBTQ+, Mental Health and Racial difference are topics discussed at integral moments in their relationship. Ambrose had a kind hearted and sincere personality - wearing his heart on his sleeve, in contrast to the reserved and mysterious Kodiak. But that made then drawn to one another, compelled to learn more.

Mixed opinions on this one. The main thing that irritated me, and almost had me DNF-ing in the first half of the book is that it feels like the author was writing two different books.

One book a very cheesy, trope-y romance novel and the other a high-concept sci-fi. I’m not for a second saying a sci-fi can’t have romance, I obviously knew this book would have romance in it before I started reading. The issue is in the writing style.

It’s the first person POV with a quirky inner monologue, the immediate description of how attractive the other character is and weird horny interactions that don’t feel natural and come out of nowhere. The main character mentions his horniness way too much.

At one point they have a movie night and watch the Mummy??? Bizarre.

The annoying thing is that the romance gets steadily more believable as the book goes on, the author easily could had the characters naturally become closer as the plot developed but it

So basically romance - bad.

Plot on the other hand, quite enjoyed. I really liked the format of the slowly descending tasks as the measure of time. Really nice twist to find out its significance.

I enjoyed the concept and felt there was a lot of potential there, and the research seemed spot on when it came to the space travel. The setting felt real and I was never taken out of it by junk science.

The world building of earth and the background of the character was a bit.. clunky? A little vague and not built on much. The character were quite one-dimensional and rather than seeing them change and grow they would just randomly act out of character.

I found the plot thrilling enough to finish this but the quality of the writing just wasn’t there for me. I likely won’t be reading more from this author.
