this book is....something. there are a lot of heavy handed messages - american healthcare sucks! antisemitism bad! eat more hard kosher salami! - mixed in with a grab bag of romance tropes - chosen family, amnesia, there's only one bed but thankfully there's also a pullout couch - and enough name drops of brands that made me wonder if this was being sponsored, resulting in the weirdest, most aggressively unique, absolute mess that I both regretted starting but also couldn't put down because I had to know what would happen next. what started fairly cliche very quickly went hard left into the wilderness, only to steer back onto the path at the very end to resolve things in a way I really should have seen coming. which is saying a lot, considering I could have never predicted half of what happened in the middle.

Reading this book felt like coming home. I feel seen and heard on a level that I haven't experienced before. Faye's story of lost love reminds me so much of my life that it's honestly a little scary. The only difference, though, is that I don't have a giant man with amnesia staying with me. I really hope that this book sees the success it deserves. This story should easily become a contemporary romance staple in any reader's library.

Read just in time for Sukkot! This book is a fast paced, beautiful read *for those who identify as Jewish or truly love Jewish stories*. I would not, personally, hand this book to someone I was trying to encourage to read diversely. It tackles the topic of antisemitism and the fear we have all been facing. The reader is faced with the prospect of changing an antisemites mind. This is quite unrealistic but I found this book to be a Jewish daydream- magic, your own power, finding a voice, healing from generational trauma, changing the minds of those who hate you, a symbiotic relationship with the police, finding your dream man. I genuinely enjoyed the story! But then, I love everything Jean writes. This book is both fantasy and reality blended. She took the plot in unexpected directions with a satisfying ending.
