Come for the golem romance, stay for the beating neo-Nazis with hard kosher salami. This book was so much fun. Faye has so many wounds from her past but is thriving in her Jewitch identity until one night she crafts a clay doll — a golem — in her pottery studio, giving him all the attributes of the perfect man: red hair, likes kids, reads books, plays Scrabble. When she hits Greg with her bike, giving him amnesia, she feels responsible for him and also like maybe he could be this golem come to life? For a book with such heavy themes of anti-Semitism, it was remarkably joyful and funny and sweet. Also Nelly, the octogenarian vigilante, is exactly who I want to be when I grow up.
