Many children experience the joy that comes with pressing the elevator button -- most parents are very aware of this! Taking this slight premise to the next level, this story is an ode to the power of imagination. When her younger sibling takes delight in pressing the button, usurping the role that has belonged only to her, Iris is angry and sad. Then she takes the old elevator button from one that is being repaired and install it in her room, where she is Lifted to new worlds - a forest with a tiger, outer space. And in the end, she brings her little brother along on a journey . . .
Graphic picture book? panelled illustrations tell the story (pretty spare/limited text) -- full page spreads of space . . . the ISS and later floating over the earth.

Amazing illustrations -- full color in a graphic novel style, but set up like a picture book format. Sibling jealousy and mad elevator button-pushing are the main themes. A little magic, too.

So much fun. Kind of difficult to read aloud, but we managed. Both my 2 year old and my 5 year old were enthralled.

An older sister gets upset when a younger brother starts taking over her job of pressing the elevator button. However, when a magical button comes into her possession she decides sharing adventures with her younger brother might be better.
Pressed the right buttons for me.

Finally read this one! The brilliant Dan Santat has illustrated this picture book in panels, and indeed, it just got a 2021 Eisner Award nomination:

I think the story can best be enjoyed with the delightful plot twists kept secret, but I'll just say that I enjoyed the Jumanji-like flavor of it all, and what appear to be several visual nods to Calvin & Hobbes.
I definitely choked up at the ending.

This book reminded me of Where The Wild Things Are. I can see this becoming a new classic and a fun book to share with others.
