DNF at 13%. The purple prose and the weird written-by-a-man vibe I get from the protagonist killed it for me.

The last line I read and the one that convinced me to give up: “The worst part is Papa. He’s sleeping by now, his dreams so rich and deep we’d need a hammer to wake him up.”

I like the concept of this book and the relationship between the FMC and the MMC, but the execution made it hard to get into the story. First, the language. This is a fantasy story in a fantasy world but there was a lot of language use that really only makes sense in the modern "real" world. It took me out of it every time. The other part was the way the FMC and MMC met, it was OBVIOUS and drawn out in a way that felt very "miscommunication" trope. Especially in that had they simply had 1 conversation it would have resolved most of the conflict at the beginning of the book. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series.

This is the exact kind of adult fae romance I've been craving and searching for. It has the back and forth enemies to lovers kind of romance that those who enjoyed The Cruel Prince might like. There is also a ball scene reminiscent of Labyrinth plus an actual labyrinth to solve if Lark wants to live and save her sisters. Can't wait for the next book and to read what happens to Lark's sisters in Faerie.

I'd say this is a great read for those who want a sexy faerie romance that doesn't shy away from language or certain scenes. And while Lark gets rather raunchy, it fits her character. At first I wasn't quite sure what to make of her, but she grew on me quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was written extremely well and portrayed the characters amazingly, the world building was excellent and the romance was built up incredibly.

The dialogue does not do it for me.
