Blood Vows was previously published under the name Feast of Reverance, but this is my first time reading any books by this author and let me just say this...this book is a well-written vampire novel that had me page-turning to learn what was going to happen next.
The author introduces readers to a woman on the edge - she's tired of the lies from her partner, and now she's thinking enough is enough and she's ready to go. But it's not really that simple is it? There is a child in the mix. While it is not hers, it is part of the problem for her. She doesnt' feel she's mother material, and his mother is suspiciously dead. The child, on another level, adds another layer to the problems that surround them both. Deaths, not just the boy's mother's, beginning to pile up. A visitor is come from out of town, and they are intent on learning secrets that are buried. Serena and Nicholai face some serious danger and staying ahead of it seems to be becoming a serious gamble for them both and the child they have taken in.
I love the suspense element the author weaves into this book. You really don't know what the next scene is going to play out and I think this is what kept me hooked the most. The characters themselves are engaging of course, but the storyline and the mystery that surrounds almost each step the characters take is what keeps you going the most. This book is steeped in secrecy, but the author does drop clues here and there. I love that these vampires are so uniquely different from your average run of the mill vamps. These don't drink blood...until they are beginning to lose themselves. This is one of many things I loved about this book.
If you are a fan of vampire novels then I highly suggest you grab this book. It has so much uniqueness to it and it will keep you entertained to the end. I can't wait to learn what happens next! I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars!
