A serial killer doesn't need a soft focus historical rebrand just because they are female.

an interesting book written from the perspective of a serial killer, and her sister, nellie, who simultaneously wanted to protect bella, and see her murderous activities come to an end. there were some unexpected twists and turns. overall this was a bit of a dark read so probably not one i would recommend to others generally but it was informative and well written.

We get it, she raises her chin in defiance.
I generally enjoyed this dive into a book loosely based on true crime, but the repetition every 30 pages or so about the main character raising her chin was maddening. Trying to humanise such a tricky real person is a huge challenge and for the most part the author has done a decent, if simplistic, job.

Triflers Need Not Apply is an intriguing bit of historical fiction, based on the true crimes of Bella Gunness. It's an uncomfortable read. Bella's spite seethes through the pages and there are some brilliant moments of suspense - although for a novel in which there is so much gleeful murder, I found it surprisingly tedious in places.

It's actually quite well written and really gives a sense of the settings, but I just don't want to go on any longer in the narrator's POV.
