if you can get past how fucked this book is and all of the trigger warnings, you won’t be able to put it down. absolutely nuts.

I was really excited for this read.. the synopsis made it sound pretty good and it was actually even better that I thought it was going to be! Some parts were harder to read through than others but I'm really happy everyone got their happy ending. This was my first read by Will Dean and it definitely wont be my last! Definitely worth the read.

WHOA. WOW. Caching my breath now...

This book. This book is a can't miss for anyone who likes a gripping page turner. The epitome of an un-put-downable book!

Not only is this a plot that employs tension, but Will Dean writes absolutely brilliantly to ratchet the pressure higher and higher as you go along. I was LITERALLY taking a gasp or deep breath at the ends of chapters. I don't think I've ever been grasped tighter by a book.

While The Last Thing to Burn has some brutality, Dean is not reliant on those moments to make the reader squirm; rather, he is able to evoke a true sense of empathy and agency between the reader and the protagonist. Multiple times I was urging Jane not Jane "don't do that!" Or "hurry up, hurry up!"

My only warning with this book is that there is an abusive, controlling male constantly present. I don't want to give too much away with the details, but I think you could learn pretty quickly by previewing the book if it would be too much for you. That said, there truly is a lot of heart, character, and a surprising amount of tenderness in this book.

I read this in basically one day. I could not stop and I would reckon you won't be able to put it down for long either. All the stars, Mr. Dean!!
