I enjoyed the beginning and was continuing to enjoy it up until I got past 60 pages.I believe and then it started to get too weird for my tastes. Weird and sexual.

Hard story to rate. Moebius' artwork is, as always, incredible. It was interesting to see how his style evolved over time, as it's clear each chapter was drawn at a different point in his career. I prefer the simpler, clearer panels of the early chapters, but even the worst Moebius drawing is incredible. One thing that stood out was how little he seemed to care about consistency of faces - characters would look radically different from one panel to the next, being only distinguishable by costume or hairstyle. Maybe it added to the dreamlike quality of the story, maybe it was lazy.

The plot, however, is pure self-indulgence. Very thin, with minimal motivation and no characterization. General themes draw on a sort of watered-down anti-authoritarian ethos - stop suppressing sex! Stop telling me what to do! A number of readers commented on the sexism of the book - I wondered if the original language included more exploration of Atan/A's transition in gender, because it was conceptually interesting but seemingly just left to dead end. As soon as Atana was revealed to be a woman, she stopped having lines of any consequences and became furniture.

Also, the lengths this guy will go to to draw a boob! So many scenes where everyone was fully clothed except one skinny young blond woman with her tits out.

On the whole, very thin, retrograde story with artwork good enough to make you forget what you're reading. 1/5 writing, 5/5 drawing

If this book were published today by a different author, would it be beloved and revered? No, probably not. A great many surreal space saga comics have been written and largely forgotten since this was published, but because it's Moebius and because the competition was lacking at the time, this book is considered a classic.

I did not love this book, but it also wasn't bad. The art is somewhat amateur by modern standards but also endearing in its own way. The story is bizarre and the ending is somewhat unsatisfying. Some of the magic may have been lost in translation (the original language was French).

I'm glad that I read it but I'm unlikely to read it again. It is an overall beautiful book though and I'm happy to display it on a shelf.

A gorgeous comic, an amazing story into strange worlds illustrated by Moebius, something magical about this book.

Not for kids...

This was the most unusual and yet the most amazing thing I've read all year. If you are a fan of the Saga series, you need to check this out.

The World of Edena is fascinating and surreal. It starts out as a science fiction story but evolves into a fantasy involving multiple levels of dreams. The artwork is colorful and expressive and compelling.
