I would say this books deserves closer to a 3.5 rating for me.

I enjoyed this book. The narration was really good and the story kept you interested. Some of the things I enjoyed were the character's voices and how they came together. This is a Rom-Com through and through and it lives up to what you expect. It's funny and romantic, but also has its heartbreaking moments.

The aspect of this book that I enjoyed the most was how open the main characters were with each other. This was a recurring issue between the two and was discussed various time during the book. But from the very beginning we see the characters recognize the importance of communication and being truthful. This was something I really liked from this books and one of its greatest virtues.

All in all I would recommend this book, even if all you want are a couple of laughs; which this book definitely gave me.

This book was absolutely adorable and the perfect read for my first business class flight. It’s an enemies to lovers, one night stand to something more romance with a Scottish hottie. (But don’t do the audiobook! I listened to the sample and it was terrible.) Reading Caleb’s Scottish accent takes some getting used to (ok a lot of getting used to for me) and I did find some problematic comments relating to body image, but it’s a fun, quick read. You should definitely pick up if you enjoy hate to love romances! And the cover is so cute ❤️

I tried so hard to like this book. I read the plot and told a coworker to order it for the library and now I regret that. Let's get it going, I guess.

What I liked: I liked the friendship between Ava and Harper. That felt real and their bond was what made the book worth finishing. Having that type of friendship in adulthood is rare and the fact that they were able to to talk through their problems and communicate with each other when they were fighting was wonderful.

What I didn't like: oo boy. So Ava and Caleb were vain, self-centered, horrible people to each other. I get that it's supposed to be a enemies to friends to love trope, but they were enemies for 90% of the book. Only a hint of kindness scattered throughout and then they'd be terrible to each other again. The use of violence against women multiple times was unnecessary. Harper and Ava both experiencing sexual and physical assault was used as a plot device and that wasn't cool. Add a little bit of anti-abortion shaming as well as a LOAD of slut-shaming and you have a nice little romcom about two unlikely protags who find love!!!!!!

Anyway. I gave it two stars because I truly did like the idea of the novel and I loved Harper and Ava's friendship. Everything else? No.

This was going to be a 4 star read until the ending. Super rushed and I feel like the male Mc didn’t redeem himself (he was a jackass). There were many time skips that started to get annoying and I can’t believe they had sex right after he gave the worst apology. I did like Ava, her backstory and her friend Harper. They made the story more interesting.

This book was enjoyable, then took a wild turn I wasn’t expecting and did not particularly enjoy! The main character is apparently messed up from his ex because she
had an abortion without telling him. Apparently, not wanting a baby for any personal reason (including wanting a family but not wanting to be pregnant yourself!) is completely unacceptable.
I obviously take issue with this. It’s my personal opinion that the main character’s viewpoint is flat out wrong, and that women have every right to do whatever they like with their bodies, so that really killed the vibe for me!

You mean the villain of this story turns out to be a ... woman who didn’t want to be pregnant? Who we never even meet, who isn’t allowed to contextual I ever her decision, and whose story is told exclusively by men? Very disappointing in an otherwise feminist story.

There’s definitely some heavy stuff in this book. The story is okay, but their relationship really only surpassed physical because of some shared traumas.

CW: physical & emotional abuse, attempted sexual assault, abortion, death of loved ones, and some questionable consent issues

PS… Be prepared if you listen to the audiobook that the narrator’s Scottish accent isn’t very good.
