I love a good bodyguard romance (Whitney did it best), and I love reversing the hetero trope to have a woman be the bodyguard. Buuut I really wasn’t invested in either of the characters?? Like I don’t know anything about either of them outside of their respective personal tragedies? And this isn’t because I didn’t read closely. It’s because there is literally no character building.

Why not give the book 1 or 2 stars, you may wonder. Because it’s a well-written book, I love a Texan nature theme, and even if the characters were bland, I loved that they weren’t the only characters given airtime. It reads well and gave me what I was looking for on a rainy Ohio day, and that definitely counts for something.
