The plot was unique and I enjoyed the funny moments but I wasn’t a big fan of Jack and I felt like the two main characters lacked a strong connection. So much potential for deeper conversations/ connections between characters. The use of big celebrity names was clever and I couldn’t help but be reminded of “The Office” when it came to Hannah’s workplace (the kelly bits were cute).  Overall I continue to like and appreciate Katherine Center style of romcoms

emotional funny

Katherine Center is a technically good writer, knowing how to create tension in a scene with short sentences, and giving the proper emphasis and page time to emotional scenes, with excellent show don't tell. I also enjoyed how the relationship between the two main characters developed. It felt real and thorough. It wasn't rushed, and I appreciated that.

But the story was extremely predictable, the tropes were tired, and she explained things during the big reveal as if I didn't see it coming from miles away, over-explaining things as if we as readers aren't smart enough to get it.

You need to have more faith in your readers, Katherine. It's insulting to be over-explained to. Trust that we'll get it from subtext.

It wasn't memorable at all, and the ending was too happy. Endings for me are better when they're satisfying, and the plot promises have been fulfilled— all of which are true for this story, but the ending is just so inconsequential. Like, I don't care. But for someone who actually has the same insecurity as the FMC, I think it could be pretty healing. It just wasn't healing to me because I don't have those problems.

All in all, pretty decent. I enjoyed listening to it.

REVISION! I wrote this 15 minutes before the audiobook ended (still in the process of listening), and something happened that is different! I like the ending better now.

Sigh. I spoke too soon. Fucking hell. The biggest tropes of tropes happened at the end. What happens at the end is what you would expect to happen at the end of a romance book? Ughhhhhhh.

I thought they broke up because of the way it was worded, but they actually got married.

I even ended up guessing the very very end, the last lines, not specifically where this idea would be, but the foreshadowing was not subtle and I knew it was gonna show up. I just didn't realise it would be its last words!
