This was marketed as a romcom but there is no romance. I found it kind of boring even before it got real weird for no reason about trans/queer people.

This was a quirky cozy mystery with a small town full of interesting characters.

When Mira loses her job and leaves her cheating boyfriend for small town life to help a friend, she becomes a part time librarian and newspaper writer all in a day. Then she meets and starts dating a guy.... Who ends up dead a week later.

Now she's determined to find his killer and starts digging into the townsfolk... With his ex-girlfriend, the Mayor of the town, not very happy with her.

I liked how well and fast Mira fit into this place. I like how people changed their opinions of her and vice versa. I can't wait for more in this series. This is a republished book with a new cover

May Day was a book I was pretty excited to read — a murder mystery, small town setting and funny/lighthearted narration? Count me in.

I finished a bit over half the book, and the more I progressed, the more I dreaded even opening it. While I really enjoyed the first quarter or so, I couldn’t connect enough to most of the characters (with the only exception being Mira), and especially not to Jeff. Therefore, I didn’t really care about his death, or who caused it, or whatever.

At some points, the book is also quite slow paced and drags a bit. Maybe I’ll give this book another try someday, or read another of the author’s books (since I do quite enjoy the writing style), but I’ll leave this one for now.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This was a quick and entertaining listen.  While it's billed as a rom com mystery, it is a little short on the romance, but definitely has a mystery to solve.

I think one is better as an audiobook.  and I loved Jennifer Jill Araya's energy and narration.  She really made the story for me and sounded right for Mira's voice.

With the start of a new series, I never know what to expect and the story was a little uneven at times, but I flew right through it and found I liked Mira and felt for her situation.  She had a little spunk and I liked her banter with the other characters.  It well represented small town life.

It'll be interesting to see where the series goes.
