More of a 3.5 I think. I enjoyed it, but I found the author felt a little self centered. I know it is a memoir in a sense as she followed the paths of the night women, but I didn’t love the parts about herself lol. I really enjoyed learning about a lot of women whose stories I likely would have never encountered, but I could’ve done without a lot of the author’s personal insight. Her writing style was t my favorite either, felt like there were a lot of words thrown into each de fence just to sound smart.

Definitely a bit disappointing. The last two thirds were pretty good and interesting but it's less about the women and more about the writers thoughts about them. The first third about Karen (who is just a colonizer full stop) was also unsettling and I'm not sure what the fixation was.
