Overwhelming in its scope (this is kind of the point?); most of this went over my head. I’m grateful to learn I’m not alone in finding this a challenging read, especially the first time.

I picked it up, then put it down. A few months later picked it up, and really focused. It took me about three months reading on and off. I couldn’t get a stride with this. it was confusing. I can’t tell you for certain the main conflict. There’s so much going on, so many characters, storylines, timelines. Challenging for sure.

However, there was so much beauty in it as well. Lines I want to carry with me. Ideas explored that give context to the sociopolitical mood of the time. Which to me, was very similar to that of today.

I will say that I struggled to follow some of this book. I will come back to it when I have the tools to better comprehend what is being shared. I know there is good stuff in here but I’m not in the place to see it currently.

I wanted to like this book. The writing is so powerful - you are instantly transported to another place, in another mood where the world is so bright and tangible and there is so much emotion and context and then you realise you are lost in the words and you no longer know what is being said, or what was said one page ago. I had to go back and read the book description to ground myself back in the book and even then I did not have a sense of the book.
