yeah let's read a Romeo and Juliet retelling hoping that it will end differently. Not gonna lie, I was hoping for that and I ended up crying because obviously we did not get a happy ending.

well, okay, I gotta chill if I want to write this review. Inhale... Exhale... Inhale... Exhale. okay I'm cool.

so you know there are some books that are not fast-paced but you still read it because it is so good? Yeah this is one of these books. Even if didn't make me binge read, I was thinking about it in between my reads. And I believe it tells a lot. Like you know the book which live with you.

I dunno what else to say really, it was engaging, it made you second guess, hoping for the impossible but still giving you hope. Also, giving you hope that one day you will find someone who will love you regardless of everything.

Yeah so it was my first R&J retelling and the bar is set so high right now, although I am not sure if I'll be reading any more of these retellings as my heart cannot take it.

oh and before I forget, thank you Netgalley for the eARC of this book. Highly appreciated.

3.5⭐️
Throught out most of the time that I was reading this book, I found the plot a little boring and the pace really slow. Luckily I love Chloe Gong’s writing, the characters she created and their interactions.
Overall my issue with this book was that it was leaning more into the historical fiction genre, with little crumbs of fantasy. Sadly I’m really not into that genre🥲
Also, I’ve always known that this duology had a spin off series but through out all the book I had no idea which characters would it be about. In the epilogue it’s basically revealed who is gonna be the protagonist of that series, but I don’t know if I’m interested enough in that character to read it.
Initially I was mostly certain that I was going to give this book 3 stars because it was heavy on the politics aspect and because of the pacing issue. Some how in the last 25% I was really invested in what was happening and the final action scenes, so I think it’s more deserving of 3,5⭐️
