Ugh! This book had a LOT going on!  I feel like it's the first one in a while that actually had a decent amount of story for EVERYONE vs half. Super good. Very much enjoyed. Mat is growing up and starting to make good choices in his own vs being forced in to them. The super random curses are some of my favorite bits. Fish guts is always solid, but "sheep swallow (sp?) and bloody buttered onions" may just be a new fave.

This was the worst book in the series so far, for a number of reasons.
1) the entire book was incredibly boring. Nothing at all happened for the first 60%, and the stuff that happened in the final third of the book weren't all that interesting anyway. So many shifts into irrelevant POVs, too...
2) Why are Nyneave and Elaine so mean to Mat? It is completely unjustified. Also, Nyneave was beating Lan up when he saved her from drowning...what the hell? Why do the males in this world put up with these outrageously bitchy women? And why are the women all so sexist?
3) Mat's rape. It was so poorly handled by the author... I am not easily offended (actually, I can't think of a time I've ever been offended by anything I've read/watched), but this made me very angry. If I wasn't already half way through the series, I would have stopped reading. The queen clearly raped Mat, on multiple occasions, demeaning him and generally bullying him into submission, to the point where Mat even admits that he feels like crying (which, for his character, is a pretty big deal!). Then, when he finally tells someone about his situation, she laughs at him. I was so shocked that Elaine laughed at him--she even went so far as to say something about Mat "getting a taste of his own medicine". WTF, Mat may be a bit of a playboy, but he's never RAPED anybody! Jesus, this whole storyline was infuriating. I'm so disappointed that the author didn't take it seriously--even though the victim is a man, rape is still a crime. And the fact that it had to happen to Mat, of all people...probably the most lovable character of the series. I was going to give the book 2 stars, until I got to this part.
Gah. I'm so irritated with this series.
BUT, at least Rand somewhat got over his sexism at the end and killed a woman :)

Definitely better paced than the previous book, though the ending is something of an anticlimax. Lots of good characters, including the introduction of one of my favorites. Unfortunately, this is also the bad touch book. There is *so much* unwarrented and unaddressed sexual violence in this book, especially in comparison with all six previous books. That alone knocks the writing down a few points.

Well the seventh book has a bit less of allure than the previous ones, once again there was a lot of setting up events.....it seems, however the payoff at the end of the book felt lesser than before.
To be honest there were several events that should have made an impact, however that impact was weaker, perhaps my expectation by book seven were through the roof.
